Sickle Cell Disease
Are you interested in joining a clinical study for people with sickle cell disease?
Patients with sickle cell disease can experience a common and painful complication called vaso-occlusive pain crisis. In healthy people, red blood cells are flexible and round, and can move easily through blood vessels. In people living with sickle cell disease, red blood cells are shaped like sickles or crescent moons. The sickle-shaped cells are not flexible and can stick to the walls of blood vessels. This can slow or stop blood from flowing properly. When this happens, oxygen can’t reach nearby tissues. When your body parts don’t get the oxygen they need, it can cause intense pain called vaso-occlusive pain crisis.
Novartis is now recruiting patients who have vaso-occlusive pain crises related to sickle cell disease to participate in clinical trials. If you are eligible for the clinical trial and you decide to participate, you will receive an investigational drug. All study participants will receive care from a study team of health care professionals at a clinical trial site.

As with all clinical trials, you have the right to leave the study at any time, for any reason.
